From conversation to decorative wall painting

April 27, 2025 at 6:00 pm
A wall painting doesn't start with a paintbrush in hand. It begins with a conversation about the client’s ideas and desires, along with questions and suggestions from my side. After the first discussion, I pick up the small brushes and create a sketch. Only after the sketches are reviewed and discussed do we move on to the actual wall painting.

For this project in Gauja, near the sea, the conversation focused on bringing the outdoors inside—preserving the natural elements of the forest, grasses, and sea. We chose a different theme for each room, but in the room with a pine forest outside the window, we stuck to the pine forest theme. To enhance the effect, the client also wanted the mural to incorporate decorative plaster with a natural texture.

And so, after the conversation, it's time for the sketching day.

Once the sketches are ready, we take them to try them on in the space—evaluating how they feel and how they might look in the room. In this case, the client chose one sketch for the painting’s motif and another for the texture. Once the decision was made, we are finally ready to start the wall painting.
